Study on Adrenergic Receptor

Abstract
1. We attempted to study the characteristics of a-adrenoceptors in the rat and rabbit vas deferens by delineating the responses of the organs to a-adrenoceptor agonists(phenylephrine(PE), norepinephrine(NE) and clonidine) and by investigating the influences of a-adrenoceptor antagonists(yohimbine and thymoxamine) on the responses.
2. PE, NE-and clonidine elicited contractile responses in the rat vas deferens in a dose-dependent fashion and the responses were competitively inhibited by yohimbine and thymoxamine.
3. Both PE and NE elicited contractile responses in the rabbit vas deferens in a dose-dependent fashion and the responses were also competitively inhibited by yohimbine and thymoxamine. Clonidine did not produce contractile response in this preparation.
4. The inhibitory effects of either yohimbine or thymoxamine on the contractile responses to the agonists were further enhanced by addition of thymoxamine or yohimbine, respectively.
5. The above results suggest that the postsynaptic a-drenoceptor in the rat and rabbit vas deferens can¢¥t be subclassified into a1, and a2.
